Steps to Salvation

We are all born into sin and have committed sins in our lives. That goes for everyone: pastors, priests, kings, queens, friends, family, loved ones and enemies. We are all in the same boat together drifting far from the peaceful shore. All in danger of eternal death and in need of salvation. This salvation is found in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came in the flesh and died for our sins in order to give us ALL eternal life.

Jesus said in the book of John, Chapter 3, Verse 16:

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

This plan of salvation put Jesus on a path to the cross to take on the penalty of our sins: death, hell, and separation from God. Through the sacrifice of His blood, the blood of a pure and sinless “lamb,” we all gained access to the promise of God to redeem mankind and overcome sin and its penalty of death, forever.

The great news is even though Jesus spoke these words to a man named Nicodemus thousands of years ago, the “whoever” in “whoever believes” means YOU too!!

How do I do it?

The Book of Romans gives us a pretty clear passage on how to receive salvation. Simply, confess that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that Jesus got up from the dead and you will be saved. That’s it! 🙂

Read it for yourself below and then read the 4 points following:

ROMANS 10:9-10

9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

1. CONFESSION

Just like God spoke things into existence in the beginning, so it will be when you speak into existence the start of your new life in Christ. Openly confessing with your mouth (using your own breath and voice), so that you can hear yourself say it, makes all the difference. As with many things, it’s important to get thoughts out of our heads and into reality. Speak it to yourself first and then to others. Proclaim to the world that Jesus is the Lord of your life!

2. BELIEVE

After you’ve confessed, the Bible states that you must also “believe.” To say a few words and not mean them is not very effective. Your faith in Jesus matters as it is what cleanses you and makes you “righteous.” Only you and God know your innermost convictions. Only you and God know whether you truly believe Jesus is Lord. However, others will soon know too, as with anything else, your daily life tends to reveal your beliefs.

3. LIVE OUT YOUR FAITH

Just like putting on a swimsuit to head to the beach reveals your belief that water will be there, your actions will reveal your true belief in Jesus as Lord. so it is for any belief you  truly hold. Faith without actions is dead. Why? That’s simple. If you truly believe something, you do stuff that lines up with what the stuff you believe.

Once you believe that Jesus is Lord, it will be very difficult to not live out that belief in your life. Over time it will become very obvious to anyone around you that you are submitting to the Lord of lords and the King of kings. Eventually, it will become clear that you believe Jesus to be exactly who He says He is.

4. GROW IN YOUR FAITH

The Bible gives a great definition of faith in Hebrews, chapter 11, verse 1. It reads:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

What this means in short is that faith is a substance. Any substance can decrease and increase. It is important that we as believers continue to increase our faith, as there are many things trying to decrease our faith in God. The enemy’s main job is to get us to lose our faith!

The Bible says in Romans 10:17 “…faith  comes  by  hearing , and hearing  by  the word of God.” This means we must hear God’s word to increase our faith. This makes it important to have a church where the sound word of God is being preached. It’s important to read God’s word often and pray often.

God’s word is fuel for our faith.

A Prayer of Salvation

If you’re ready, feel free to pray the prayer below and make Jesus the Lord of your life today:

“Today is the day. I humble myself before you God and accept that You know best. I believe Your plan of salvation includes me and that You sent Your Son, Jesus into the world to die for my sins. I believe that You raised Him up from the dead and by His sacrifice I receive eternal life. Jesus, I make you Lord of my life for the rest of my life. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.”

If you prayed this prayer you are SAVED!

NEXT STEPS – BAPTISM

THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

After the disciples walked with Jesus, witnessed the miracles, watched him die for their sins and raise again they believed, but it is what happened next that was vital for the furtherance of the gospel.

Jesus “commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father.” (Acts 1:4) This promise was the Baptism of the Holy Spirit by which every believer is entitle to receive. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit gives believers “power,” spiritual gifts and access to godly wisdom and knowledge. It is actually the Holy Spirit, God’s Spirit (Jesus) taking residence inside of us. We become His home.

Being born again in Christ and receiving salvation is just the beginning. Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit you allow Jesus to live on the inside and “guide you into all truth.” (John 16:13)

WATER BAPTISM

Water Baptism is a rite of the church and an outward expression of the inner experience we enjoy of being cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Though water baptism is symbolic in nature, many people have had life changing experiences during and after water baptism. See below one of many scriptures showcasing the importance of Water Baptism and its important symbolism:

  • Shows that the old man has been buried with Christ.

Romans 6:3-4 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
